Don’t know about elsewhere but here in the countryside lots of obaasans have dyed their hair BRIGHT blue, purple, wine or even yellow. They are far outshining their juniors who are mostly content with shades of brown. Long live the Elder Birds of Paradise!

I also loved the “shocks of color” analogy, and smile at the thought of personalities being revealed by the flumes of raging colored hair parading through the streets; to witness such a thing would be delicious!

I dyed my hair for a while, not especially wanting to join all the women in my family who had gone gray at the age of 29… but now I love it. It’s a gift, this silver. It makes me feel wise, or at least, give myself permission to seek wisdom, but I wear it long, so that when the moon is full I can dream of dancing in moonlight…
